In this project, you will create a series of 5–7 photographs that explore the concept of the in-between—places, emotions, transitions, or identities that resist easy definition. Think of thresholds, dusk instead of day or night, quiet gestures instead of loud declarations, moments of uncertainty instead of clarity.
This project is about capturing ambiguity and establishing a mood or style that threads through your series. Your final images should feel cohesive, like they belong to the same visual or emotional world.
Requirements:
• Shoot in RAW and edit for dynamic range (pay attention to shadows, highlights, and midtones). Can be color or black and white.
• Use composition deliberately—consider how framing, focus, line, and space affect the viewer’s interpretation.
• Your series should reflect an emerging personal style. This could be in tone, color treatment, subject matter, or visual rhythm.
• Include a short artist statement (150–300 words) explaining your idea of “in-between,” and how ambiguity or mood guided your decisions.
Suggestions:
You might explore:
• Transitional spaces (hallways, doorways, construction zones)
• People in reflective or indecisive moments
• Environmental ambiguity (fog, twilight, reflections, overlays)
• Identity blur—through masks, shadows, or back views
• Disrupted narratives—what’s not shown
• Shooting at times or in places you haven’t worked with before
Your final images should be posted to your Miro board, along with your work that includes originals and not selected shots
Printing is TBD
