Texture Exercise

3D texture.004.

3D texture.005.

For this exercise, you will create 4 texture samples from cardboard based on your own photos.

Directions:

1. tkae your camera and walk around the building, inside and outside. take 8 photos of textures. Get your camera up close, and look for shots where the light accentuates the textures. Look for natural and human-made textures. Bring your phone  back to class

2. Look at your pictures and find some that might translate to the cardboard well. Describe them, are they organic? Patterned? Rough? Flowing? Pick 4 with different characteristics.

3. Create four 8 inch squares of cardboard (Measure!) and approximate the textures on the squares. You can add material or cut the textures into the square, but the textures should be made out of the cardboard (You can use glue, but no hot glue snot textures!)

4. We will hang these in class and make a key with your descriptive terms. This will be the class texture bank for this project.

Remember, paper/cardboard can be:

Cut, bent, glued, rolled, laminated, scraped, shredded, folded, scored, torn, woven, layered, crumpled, perforated, twisted, stacked, or embossed. Reach for new techniques to give life to the surface of the cardboard!
