In this project, you will create a small plaque and place it in a public space, altering, illuminating, or challenging the space the plaque is located. You will use the laser cutter or CNC in the mix to cut the text into the material of your plaque.
The text, shape, and size of the plaque is up to you, but ut should not be more than a 5 or 6 inches in any 1 dimension. It must be placed non-intrusively and nondestructively.
Your work can be inspired by conceptual art as in these examples, or from other texts like poetry, but the words need to be yours, or they need to something that is radically re-contextualized by the surrounding space.
Think about context, re-contextualization, ambiguity, and leaving the person who finds this object with a sense of wonder, bewilderment, or a new understanding of the place they are at.
Look at these examples, and this week come up with 5 possibilities as well as 5 spaces on campus with pictures. You can post these to the class Miro board.
